Sockets and Wire Question
« on: March 03, 2011, »
Perhaps this has been covered but I did not see it anywhere.

Is there anything special about the wire for sale on the site or can I just gab 3 different color spools of wire from radio shack or online?  I really do not need 100 meters of wire, at most it may be 5.

Also, what are the connectors on the site for?  I assume they are just used for quickly connecting some of the smaller pieces, 50/50s, rigid strips etc.  Just want to make sure I am not missing something.

If you order wire you do need to order the 4 strand correct?

Could you use standard stranded UTP wire as well?

I thought I read is some post that you could.

Thanks,

You need the 3 strand: +12v, Ground, and Data.

These pixels do not use the clock signal that some of the other types of pixel use.

In the list of pixels from the coop there is a rectangle pixel that has 4 wires in and out.

Can the SS controller run that module?

all the smart string devices from the coop links will have three wires regardless of the picture being used.

I think you could hit up your auto parts store and get some trailer light wire.  It is usually four bonded, heavy gage (16 seems to be common), color coded, stranded wires (you can just peel off the extra wire and use for something else or leave it for a repair if a wire gets cut.  There also seems to be 3 wire also out there).

Here is what I mean on ebay:
