LE First Build Resistor Help
« on: March 18, 2011, »
Just starting my first LE build & have done the resistor section. Problem is that I have 4 resistors left over & have looked 3 times at the manual & can not find there location.

The color bands on all 4 are:
Gold/ Red/Black?Brown

Let me know where they go.

           Thanks Mike

Greetings,,,

Do they look the same as the resistors near the triacs?

No they are about 1/2 the size of those near the tracs.

Sounds like the 1k Resistor for the DMX Data light.

I would just double check all the resistor slots are filled, they all look the same on the printed circuit board (rectangle with the number inside).

If they are I would move to the next step.  The LE 5 manual is pretty complete and good, just make sure you read the text thoroughly then compare to the pictures.

The LE Coop was so big there is a chance of error or if you had 4 kits order they just put them all in that bag.  I know I personally would go buggy after a short time trying to count all the resistors for that large coop.

Hope that helps

Color code on those is Brown/Black/Red/Gold - Gold denotes the tolerance on resistors with 4 color bands.  That makes these 1 Kohm resistors.  There is only one on the LE over near the 3 LEDs for Data/5V OK/3V OK.  It should be the one furthest to the right closest to the LEDs.

The BOM for an LE only calls for one of these.  There is a Red/Black/Red which is a 2 Kohm resistor over below the Transformer.  Is it possible that one of these is for that location?  It might be that the first red band is reading brown.  If in doubt and you have a multimeter I'd check the resistance for the ones you have left to find out if the match the value for the color codes.  Here's a link to a resistor calculator where you can plug in the color code and get the resistance value.

Not sure why you would have four of these so I'd do a little research on the ones you have left.  Are you missing any resistors on the LE PCB?  Hope this helps.

PS.  Batdive and I were on the same track it seems.  AT

Greetings,,,

You may also simply be the recipient of an early Christmas present.  Perhaps the end of a resistor group got thrown in.  If all others are accounted for, keep just in case, and show people what makes the light.

I only ordered 1 kit so do not know why I got 4. Yes I am short 3 47 k Ohm resistors but I have sent RJ a message on that.
I see where a 1K resistor goes next to the Data link led could this be what it is.

Greetings,,,

Hope that's the only issue you have.  Plenty of time to resolve.  Don't wait like me until November.   ;D

Trust me I am not waiting, I am going to try & run this board  along with the 5 LOR boards I have. Have to try & learn how xLights works, so no time to waste.

How about a good clear picture of the resistors Mike. Sometimes those colors look odd.

I believe it is the correct one as that is the only resistor that does not have a color on the WIKI

FYI each board has a total of 42 resistors installed on them, if that helps
