Extension cords & LE
« on: March 23, 2011, »
I am going to use the cheap extension cords as outputs on my LE. Question is:
How do you tell the Hot from the Neutral?
Is ther something on the outside of the cord?

Mike,
There is a rib on the outside of one of the wires. That is the neutral wire.
Feel along the edges of the cable and you will find it.

If your cord has no rib on one wire the neutral wire will be the one with the writing on it. We electricians often call the neutral the "identified conductor" so, the wire with the marks on it will be the neutral.

Ultimately if you are not sure test it!  Usually the wider plug end is the neutral as well for properly polarized plugs.
