OS X Lynx Express Configuration program
« on: April 09, 2011, »
Well, as I was waiting for the Lynx Express parts/cases to arrive, I figured I might was well start working on the software to let me work it from my Mac.  So I started with the Config program.  This is a screen shot, it reads the config.xml file that comes with RJ's config program.  My hope is to eventually let it update from the same location.

I still need to figure out some of the command strings to command the Express, but thats what makes this a hobby I guess.  Figure I can do that when the Express's are built.

If other people are on OS X,  and may find this useful, I will of course make it available via whatever mechanism DIY uses.  After the config, I hope to start some some OS X software for building some shows.

A screen shot. I tried to stay true to the Windows config program

Ok, Just waiting for my dongle now.  I have the packets figured out, and when I generate them to a file, they all look correct.  So hopefully in a week or so, I will have the hardware in to put it through its real tests!

Are there any Mac users for such a thing?  The config program was just the first thing on my list.  I have a lot more ambitous plans for Mac DMX software (of course, much greater schedules too!)

Out of the nine desktops/laptops/servers here at Chez Cole, only one is Windows, which is in place mostly for Christmas lights. All the rest are various incarnations of OS X (4.11, 5.8, 6.6) running on both PPC and Intel hardware.

I have finished up the Lynx Configuration program for the Mac.  It is Intel specific however.  RJ has graciously allowed it to be hosted on the wiki, so when I finizlize the icon, I will be working on it getting it hosted.  A few things worth noting.  This was designed for Lynx hardware. So I have only verified it on the Lynx Dongle.  In addition, it does NOT use the serial port drive on the Mac, but the FTDI usb drivers.  So if one has the VCOM FTDI drviers installed, this program will not find any valid FTDI dongles.
It supports the Express and MR16.  A screen shot is attached.
