Vixen 2.1.4.0 and Pixel Net Plugin
« on: June 13, 2011, »
I have Vixen 2.1.4.0.  I added the pixelnet plugin to the plugin output folder.  If I add it in the profile manager then Vixen crashes.  I plan to have max of 700 pixel channels.  So I set it to 1-1512 adjustable preview and 1-1512 channels on the pixel net output.  I have the pixelnet plugin unchecked as I do not have it built/flashed yet.  If I remove the pixelnet plugin and add the original dmx pro back, Vixen runs fine.  I guess I am missing something.  I thought it would n=be just like my 2010 show but with the pixelnet plugin.

No.  I have version 2.1.4.0.  It is 2.1 and it took a small update to 2.1.4.0.

Can someone else test this for me. I just setup a new 1512 ch seq with the pixelnet plugin and it ran fine.

Make sure you have the dongle flashed to pixelnet and pluged in.

I have been running the same version of Vixen all night with a SSC and set of pixel strings

Try to dl the file again, you might have a bad download
Did you correct set the setting for the dongle?
Did you put the pixelnet firmware on the dongle?

Cheers

I thought it was like using the dmx pro.  If you did not have the dongle connected, then you just make sure it is unchecked.  Then you can set up Vixen and sequence.  I have not flashed my dongle and it is not connected.  I just wanted to set up my Vixen and start a sequence.

Do I have to have the dongle plugged in and ready to go?

Sorry I misunderstood you.

If you have it unchecked then Vixen won't even look at it. I just dl the pixelnet.dll file at work and created a new vixen sequence and it ran just fine with the Pixelnet attached plugin added but unchecked. There must be something else setup wrong for you to see that error.

So start at the basics.
1 - Download the pixelnet.dll from the wiki
2 - Put that file in your Vixen/Plugins/Output folder
3 - Start a new seq (no profile) then go to the attached plugins drop down box add Pixelnet and then uncheck it
4 - Create a random seq and see if it plays

Let me know what you get

Cheers

If I did not do a profile it first crashes when I saved it but it did save.  I could then open it and I had channels.  So with pixelnet you can not have a profile?

Profiles really do not affect this unless you have the plugin setup in the profile.

OK.  I took the full copy of my 2010 show.  I added the pixelnet plugin.  I had it unchecked also the dmx pro dongle was unchecked.  Everything opened fine and worked.  I maybe will have at best 800 channels.  So I changed my channel count from 1-256 to 1-1000 on adjusable preview, picelnet (unchecked) and removed the dmx pro.  I had to then add 744 channels to make the 256 up to 1000.  I made two sequences and the both open with 1000 channels.  I guess I got it.  I am not sure what was happening.  I am running win 7 32 bit.  But then so is half the people running light shows probably.

Thank You

I noticed that if you do not have the com port set correctly in the plugin it will crash vixen.

Even if it is unchecked and not being used?
