I am trying to hook up my Pickit3 to flash the 18F1220 chip - can someone please point me towards the pin outs for the 18F1220 PIC?

I don't think that will work Rick, it's for the 28 pin PIC, the MR16 uses an 18 pin PIC. Sorry, I can't help either, I use a ZIF adapter that I bought from J1sys on ebay.

But, I STRONGLY suggest getting a ZIF socket as it helps to not cross a pin, and possibly short something
To rule the entire tri-state area!  What's that? Perry the Platypus!!!

My bad, I guess I should of read the whole post  <fp.

But I agree that if possible a adapter board is the way to go and I see rmp2917 has posted the wiring info.

Thanks rmp2917, that looks like what I need.
I did find the answer somewhere last year, but after having my hard drive replaced just before christmas, I couldn't find it again.
I really wish I could get a ZIF board, but can't seem to get them here in New Zealand, can't get much of anything down here  :( and paying $40+ shipping from the US is not feasible for something I'll only use a couple of times, can't even ad one to a mouser order, since they don't sell them, so my options are limited.

Maybe you did the search wrong on mouser but you can buy the ZIF (zero insertion force) connectors from them and maybe use a bread board when you need to program a PIC. Just a thought.

Good luck.
