ss controller is alive
« on: June 13, 2011, »
It is alive. Package arrived today, started at 5:45 came to life with one node at 9:30. it took me a little while to figure out with only one dongle pixel net needed to be set at universe 2. After that it worked right out of the box. The only issue was the 100ohm 3 watt resistor was 15ohms. popped in a 100ohm 10watt resistor from radio shack and all was good.

very impressive RJ.
and a big thank you to Bill for the coop

Thank You
Rob

No both jumpers on pixel should be on #1 of the pixel net choice for a single dongle. The Pixelnet universe is chosen by two jumpers each always need to be on the same number.

Congrats

I soldered up a hub and 8 SSC yesterday and put the test firmware on one of the SSC so I was able to see my window frame with pixel strings all lit up. It was Cool

I will have to check my cable that i used to go from the dongle to the pixelnet Hub. maybe it was a cross over cable?
I will double check that tonight.

Thank You

Yep it was a cross over cable.

Rick, could you post some pix.  I'm just finished making some frames out of J-Channel and you were right - they are too flimsy.   I'd love to see how you pvc frame turned out.

Are there any issues with using a 100 ohm 10 watt resistor vs. a 3 watt?  I believe radio shack has these in stock and would allow me to complete my controller.

100 ohm 10watt is what I used.  shouldn't hurt anything it can just dissipate more heat.

All I could find was a 100 ohm 1 watt, will that work?

you need to be above 3 watts.   It's best to send RJ the 1 penny to get your shiiping address, so he can send you one.
