Smart String Controller Enclosure...
« on: June 15, 2011, »
After going to Lowes today and asking for "thin wall" pvc pipe and just getting a blank stare, I decided to just look around.

Item #23897  1in SCH40 PVC cap
these fit perfectly on the Smart String Controller

just thought i'd post this, to help others find what they need.

by the way, 10ft of the thin wall (class 200) cost 40 cents more than 5ft of the regular schedule 40 stuff.   not bad!!!

I went to Home Depot first - but they didn't have any CPVC pive in 1" dia.   However, as I was checking out the guy ask the usual - "Did you find everything?"  I told about the pipe and showed him the ssc pcb.  He asked some question abt the controller and what it did and I admit to my Blinky addiction!  He got very interested and ask if this sort of thing could be used for other things other than Christmas and ended up giving hime the DLA url.   There I go again - proselytizing!    More converts that's what we need - the whole world should have BLINKY!

BTW, ended up getting the pipe at LOWES ,but had to order 60 caps online!

Yep, same stuff.  I almost gave up and on my way to pick up some pvc for window frames (for my stings)  I saw this stuff - I had the pcb along and it fits perfectly as you mentioned.  I got 3 sticks of 10ft

Just remember, CPVC and PVC are NOT the same thing and while you can use CPVC, why spend the extra money.

What lengths are you folks cutting the pipe too?  I was thinking 4.5" but wasn't sure if there would be enough room for the controllers and the connectors.

I don't have my strings yet from Ray so I am in limbo until he ships them.

I'd go between 4 and 6 inches

Mine are 5 inches. I had to be careful not to go to long because the pigtails I started with were short. The new ones where made just for this and are three times as long so you have extra to work with.
