Programming SmartStrings
« on: June 25, 2011, »
I am trying to program my first 128 node string. I am not getting any of them to light, flash, or otherwise while trying to program the channels. I am wondering if it matters which end of the string is connected and if I need to count the nodes before trying to set the channels. I saw where someone had bad nodes, but it appears some were lit and it seemed taht node count mattered.  I measured 12V on the string and 7 volts on the chips.  Seems like I have power end to end and at the controller.

Need HELP!!!!

YES.  I have square and rectangle nodes and they are marked DI (data in) and DO (data out).  The DI side connects to the controller.  The DO connects to more nodes.

If you are using the smart string nodes, look at one of the nodes and you will see a single black chip on one side. That is the input side of the node.
Hope that helps.

I was wondering how you figured out the input side on the nodes.  Thank you.

Thanks, I recall seeing this about the black chip side, but it didn't register until now. I looked and yes it was backward. Hope I didn't fry anything!

I'll try later and reverse them.

If the power is hooked up correct it will not hurt it. Just swap ends and "See the Light"!
