will I need a second hub.
« on: July 13, 2011, »
I need 5270 channels to run my planned show. I know I will need two dongles, a combiner and the main hub. Will I have to get a second hub or can I use a passive hubs for the other 1174 channels because I am only using 16 SSCs.

DMX -512   12 Flex strips 120 node -4320 2 coro flakes -288, one north star -150  on 16 SSC.

I have the feeling I will need a second hub. reding the wiki while writing this it looks like one universe per hub....I wanted to avoid the cost of another power supply and main hub.

Sorry but you can only get 4096 channels per universe

So you need 2 dongles and 2 16 port hubs

The passive hubs don't increase the channel count and you still need to provide power at the passive hubs to power the lights

We have a 16 port passive hub that has not be put out yet. It is basicly a active hub with no DMX output and no repeater for the pixelnet. It will do what you need and be cheaper. I will be doing a coop for it soon.
