I am a little confused by the headers for the Smart String Hub. On the board there are headers to select Pixelnet Universe, marked 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 with a line between. In the Manual it says to put the jumper over Pins #1. My question is, why are there 2 sets of 1234, and do they always have to be on the same Pin number?

The jumper will connect pin 1 to pin 1, or pin 2 to pin 2, etc...

I understand how the jumpers work, but why are there 2 of them?

If I got this correct

The first four pick the pixelnet universe
The second four what part of the pixelnet universe to use

It uses two sets of jumpers bcause the wires are in pairs.  Each jumper controls one side of the pair.  If they used a common ground then there would only be the need for one jumper but doing that would kill the ability of twisted pair to cancel out EMI.

Yes this is correct. They should always match.
