Rainbow Floods and Rainbow Flood Brain
« on: September 22, 2011, »
I have had a change in the type of controller I will be using to control my 8 Rainbow Floods this season. I was going to use a beta controller which ran Renard protocal, but that isn't going to work out, so I've decided to run them with the good ol' Rainbow brain, and I know the brain is DMX, but my question is, do I have to do anything to get the brain to work with my LEs? Do I have to switch any wires around or anything and how do I set the addresses on the brains? The wiki isn't working for me tonight, so I cannot figure it out.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Jesse

Jesse,  The 16 channel DC controller (aka MR16) works like a champ.  I have 8 rainbow floods I will be using this year also.  I am using two 16 channel DC controllers running 4 on each one.  They match up with the dmx wiring for the Lynx.  Just a thought in case you have not already bought them.  They mount real nice in a battery box.

I completely forgot about using a DC controller. Thanks!!! I think that would be a LOT easier that trying to use a Rainbow Brain. Now I guess I'll be on a mission to find someone who has an couple extra MR16 laying around they wouldn't mind selling to me :D

In the for sale section it looks like RJ has the PCB's available.  They do not have a heat sink like the expresses so just a BOM from Mouser is needed.  You may also find complete kits from other users.  Good luck.

To answer your original question though, there is nothing you need to do to get the Brain to work inside any DMX network.  You need no special adapters or cross over cables.  Simply plug the controller into the DMX stream and away you go.  As usual, if the Brain is the last unit in the DMX stream that you need to put the terminate jumper on.

I am using cat 5 or actually the little pigtails RJ sent out with the Smart Strings, to wire to my rainbow floods.  My question is which of the 8 wires on the cat 5 go to the 4 holes in the circuit board?
