Programming PIC
« on: September 30, 2011, »
hi there,

i'm trying to program the PIC18F1220 chip for the MR16 but i'm having trouble with it. i have an ICSP28 board but i don't know what to set the jumpers to for programming it properly.

does anyone know whether i can do it with the ICSP28 board? the instructions i read at j1sys didn't mention anything about the PIC18F1220 jumper settings and what they should be when using the ICSP28 board.

thanks, scott

Looking at j1sys ebay page
ICSP20A - Supports 18 or 20 pin PIC Microcontrollers.
The standard jumpers are configured for Group D, F, and G .300in DIP chips.

    * Group D - 18 pin VPP=4, VDD=14, VSS=5, PGD=13, PGC=12

          PIC16F54, PIC16F627A, PIC16F628A, PIC16F648A, PIC16F716, PIC16F818, PIC16F819, PIC16F84A, PIC16F87, PIC16F88, PIC16HV540, PIC18F1220, PIC18F1230, PIC18F1320, PIC18F1330, PIC16C554, PIC16C558, PIC16C56A, PIC16C58B, PIC16C620A, PIC16C621A, PIC16C622A, PIC16C717, PIC16F54, PIC16F627A, PIC16F628A, PIC16F648A, PIC16F716, PIC16F818, PIC16F819, PIC16F84A, PIC16F87, PIC16F88, PIC16HV540, PIC18F1220, PIC18F1230, PIC18F1320, PIC18F1330

it look like that you will need the ICSP20A - Supports 18 or 20 pin PIC Microcontrollers.

You can use your existing board and just make wire jumpers from the main header to the pins you need. That is what I did when I needed to program a smaller chip. Not as nice looking as the jumpers he provides on the board, but it works.

when using an 18 pin pic, pin 1 is in a different spot, than when you use a 20pin pic.
To rule the entire tri-state area!  What's that? Perry the Platypus!!!
