Center Digital readout not working

On third LE build and ran into this snag.

Center digital readout does not light up during startup.

After startup digitals flash   0.  <Blank.> 1.   then  < Blank. >   0.  < Blank. > and cycles through both.

Checked all pins and no bent.

All solder seems proper.

I assume you verified the center display is oriented properly.  Have you moved the center display to one of the other positions to confirm it is good?  As Keith Tarpley indicated, the 2700 pf capacitor can be a problem.  I make sure it is standing up tall enough so the wire leads are visible on the top of the board before soldering.

I had the exact same issue and it was the 2700 cap.  funny thing is i forgot to solder the cap in and when i did, presto, working digits.  i would check first.

hmmm removed and reset the 2700 cap. no luck.

varified that the digitals all worked removed and moved to working slots a o.k.

ok took a cap from another kit and floated in and Wonder-bar! it's working so far. took a closer look at cap and there was a crack along one side on lead wire.  guess have to find another hope Fry's has one.

Want to thank you all for helping out great place to be when a guy gets into trouble.
