Access to the port "COM20" is denied - ERROR!
« on: October 12, 2011, »
I keep getting this error.  I've attached a pic.

I have restarted the computer, disconnected the dongle, changed the COM port of the dongle, changed the USB port of the dongle, uninstalled/reinstalled the driver and I keep getting this error.

Both the green lights on the dongle and on the Lynx Express (Data Link) are on.  The wireless module has been removed and the jumper has been replaced.  The dongle is connected directly to the LE.

Any ideas?

Make sure that you have the com port set the same in Vixen and Windows.  Maybe also try a port between 5 and 10

Make sure you didn't check DMX in the Add-ins menu

For those of you following this...  I picked up mms's dongle and express to take a look at them.  The dongle and express work fine on my computer.

Does the TI 99/4A have a com port that would work?  LOL.

OK, since the hardware works... could it be possible anti-virus software blocking access to the com ports?  Should I uninstall and delete the drivers completely from the system, reboot, then reinstall them again?

Why would it work fine on Monday and then when I plug it in on Wednesday I get an error?

I may use a dedicated, older computer to run the shows.  But the machine in question is my work horse for all the audio manipulation/recording/production that needs to be done.

Greetings,,,

As mentioned, did you try one of the lower com port numbers?

The lowest Com port available is 11.  PK was skyping with RJ and someone else and that's where we got the suggestion to change the com ports.  And yes, they match in Windows and Vixen.

Does anyone know if there is a way to re-assign com port numbers?

Device Mgr - properties of Com port in question - port settings tab - advanced button - choose com port number 1 to 256.

Somebody was having issues with high com ports on their system. They clear the drivers to get the lower comports back and it fixed it. Just a thought to keep in mind.

Check to make sure no other software is snagging all the com ports. Fax stuff, Digital Line Detect (on most all Dells),or anything the might be modem related could be hogging them.

Another thing to try is if your motherboard still has serial ports you aren't using (or just a header like Intel boards), go in the BIOS and make sure they are disabled.

We switched to COM6 (and COM7) and having the same problem.  Re-installed Vixen.  Re-installed the driver.  The assignments are the same in Windows and Vixen.

Got it fixed.  DMX Add-In checked, now it's unchecked and I have blinky flashy!  Thanks for all the suggestions.
