New Dongle Problem
« on: November 09, 2011, »
New Dongle.

First off this is the only Lynx Dongle I have right now. My last dongle was traded to another member as his dongle did not work.  Now I am in the same boat trying to get this dongle to work.

Have gone through many posts and still cannot get the Dongle to pass data to the controller.

I have multi checked everything. LED's are functioning correctly, Windows Control Panel has me a COM 7 57K 8, 0, 1 with FTDI Ver 2.8.14.

Pic is correct checksum. LE Data light is on and dim the way it should be, but no program I try will pass data.

Tried to download the DMX Deck software and the link does not work all I get is INDEX.PHP for a file name.

I am very experienced in trouble shooting but need some other suggestions not just the basic check solder joints, components backwards or wrong part.

When run in Vixen and setup as a Entec DMX Pro I get the following error message when trying to use the dongle.

The data rate needs to be 115,200.

Dennis,
Has this dongle ever worked?

Set the data rate to 115K and no difference.

Interesting error message. Never seen it before.

I always counsel to download a fresh version of Vixen and try it ... in my first use of a new dongle, something happened that stepped on something in V and I was never able to get the dongle to work. Downloaded a fresh V and all was well.

If that doesn't help, my next advice would be to try burning the firmware again.

Then I'm out of ideas.

Well all is working now. Do not know exactly why it started working, but have a possible idea.

Since using several programs to test the Dongle, I discovered one program that was not terminating when closed and had about 10 processes for that program still running. I guess there was more but left it alone for a while  and went back testing again another program it worked perfectly.

Never seen this happen before, close a program and in a few seconds the process for that program should end and release the memory.
