VirtualBox with EtherDongle
« on: December 26, 2011, »
Hi Folks,

Normally this would not be a problem but I am just drawing a blank (Allow me to blame it on the cold and meds  ::) ).

Everything is run by Xlights with Vixen Sequence: On my Windows 7 computer I can communicate with the ETD and it plays the show with no problem (minus the audio). So I know it all works but when I attached it to my show computer.

Show computer is running Linux Debian with VirtualBox Windows XP. I get no data to the ETD. Now I know it has to be a Network NAT setting but I am just not sure what that could be.

Any thoughts

Thanks

Can you ping the Windows 7 PC from the Virtualbox XP instance?  That would make sure you are on the same network.

I"m guessing it is an issue with the way Virtualbox is creating its network interfaces or which network interface it is sending the multicast traffic too.  Can you tell it which network to send multicast too?  How many network interfaces are configured in the virtual machine?

i believe i had better instances with another network setting like bridged i think, than trying to use NAT.  both the guest OS, and the "on the metal" OS get a seperate IP from the router (if using DHCP) and it just seems to work better for me.

Well I did like Chris said

I changed it over to a Bridge network. It got a ip address from the router and now its running the lights from the ETD and VirtualBox Windows XP.

So thanks for the help

Sweet.  Glad you got it working Rick, the ETD is very cool.
