Built and passed test
« on: February 12, 2012, »
IT'S ALIVE at least I think it is. Built my first Express and its passed the test in the manual. So in following the manual I am having a cold one.
While buildin I read each step three times then proceeded with building each section, so I am now on my Third cold one >:D.

If it passes the test, does this mean lights will blink? As there is no way I am going to finish put cords on it.

Congratulations on building your first Lynx Express.  Yes, if it passes the tests lights should blink.  You can put a cord on just one channel if you want to verify you have blinky flashy.... then you can have another cold one!!

probably shouldn't mess with blinky hardware after too many cold ones, though

Have always had the greatest respect for electricity, therefore that is why I mentioned there was no way that i was going to put cords on it or even plug it in anymore.

Congrats on the successful build!  Funny thing is, the next one you build will give you the same thrill when you see it work for the first time!

Congratulations on the build.  Great feeling on the first one.

To answer your question, the test means that the internals are working fine and that the LE is sending commands out to the TRIACs based on the DMX inputs (as far as the systems knows).

What isn't tested is the actual power going through the TRIAC and switching taking place.

To run a true test of your LE will require to provide power to both sides of the LE and testing each output on each of the 16 outputs to make sure that all of the TRIACs are good.

Speaking from personal experience, sometimes the TRIACs will fail on (in my case, I am almost certain it was poor static electricity defense procedures on my part) when they fail.  This means that your lights will stay lit no matter what the LE is sending to the unit to switch.  However, I built 6 last year and only had two 'triac' issues.  I think that is pretty darn good.
