To Terminate or not to Terminate
« on: May 06, 2012, »
Looking at the schematic for the Servo controller, specifically the DMX IN and DMX Out, what is the recommendation for the Terminate jumper? ON or OFF?

Because the RS485/DMX is regenerated and sent out on a new port, then shouldn't you ALWAYS terminate?

But, if you just jumper the RS485/DMX signal to the OUT port (which very few people will do, I think), then you are more "normal" like the most pass-through boards.

Normally, since the board regenerates the signal, you would put the Terminate jumper on.

It is possible, however, to build a version of the board that omits the second MAX485 chip (to save money)  by replacing it with two jumpers.  In this case, you would only terminate the board if it at the end of the run.
