What app are you using to sequence?  I think you could use LSP, create a matrix and then use transitions to create some really cool effects with minimal effort.  That's what I did for my LED mega tree that I created last year.  Might save you some time.

I have used Vixen since I first started. I tried the LSP demo but I could never get the hang of it. I think it has something to do with old dogs and new tricks.
