Additional parts
« on: July 24, 2012, »
I was putting my last express togeather and I seem to be short 1- 180 ohm resistor. I am going to order from mouser. Is there any other parts that would be good to keep on hand as spares for the express boards?

I would at least get some RS-485s, Triacs, a couple of pics

If you have any smart string hubs then I would get the little green fuses.

if you really need them but if not I would just get a 1/4 watt 180 ohm resistor locally if possible. It will be a lot cheaper

I am sure I am forgetting something

Are you talking the 16- 5amp fuses?

Yes

Sooner or later a fuse will blow

If putting together an order to mouser, my suggestion for spares would include the several sizes of the stand- offs for the pics, and several of every small part tat is common between the kits.

Don't get just one little green fuse.  Get at least 10, besides they are cheap.  I look at the cost of a part and if it cheap I just order several.  If it is a critical part I have at least one.  I.e a critical part takes down a show or a whole controller while a non critical part only takes down one channel.  At least that is my definition.  I have a spare dongle, a spare active hub and a spare LE.  Last year I had 5 spare LEs because I got tied up working on smart strings and did not have time to other new stuff that I was planning on.  Maybe this year - LOL.  I already feel behind the 8 ball.

mouser has other interesting items beyond parts...

flux pen
solder
anti-static devices
pliers
extraction tools (IC / chip removal)
aligator clips
solder braid
