Aether I vs. Aether II channel arrangement
« on: August 10, 2012, »
I finally put my aether Is and aether IIs together running on the same four channels last night and noticed that the Is start with white as channel 1 and the IIs start with red as channel 1.

Did I miss a firmware update along the way or is this the way things are supposed to be?

Thanks,
-Paul

I don't have aether I's but your aether II's are correct.

Rick or RJ,

Do you know if this is correct? If so, would it take much to change the firmware to make the channel arrangements consistent between versions?

Thanks,

Hi Paul,

To be honest I don't own any aethers

But following normal RJ logic they both should work the same way (similar firmware ). They both should be RGBW units.
Could there be a assembly problem with the Aether I?
Can you control the aether I properly? Like just Red on or Green or Blue, etc?

Quote
From RJ about the Aether I - Feb 18 2010
It will be 4 channels, It will have  Red, Green, Blue and White as independant channels. When the white channel is active the other channels will be ignored and and the light follows curves to ramp up and down white light. When you ramp white back down if the color channels are still on the light goes back to that color as soon as the white channel hits zero.

So in other words the 4th channel is a white overide.

So maybe some trouble shooting is needed.

Hi Rick,

I've got two aether Is that are operating just fine - completely adjustable - except for the WRGB (ch1-4) arrangement.
and four aether IIs operating just fine with RGBW (ch1-4).

"All" on (using the bobcat tester) give me all white on all aethers - like I would expect.

??

They are different intentionally. I got complaned at about the Aether I being different than everyone else does so I changed them to match other systems so it would jive with the software.

By "them", I assume you are talking about the aether IIs?

That sounds logical, so will you be changing the aether Is to match as well when you get a chance or is that not doable for some reason?

NP Rick. Thanks for the response.

RJ, if this topic is an issue -- then not a big deal I will just work around it.

I can see how this minor thing could become a thorn in someones side (yours).

Thanks for all the work you do.

I am afraid it would take a major rewrite because of the way the code works and I am just too far behind at this point to be able to even guess when I could work on it.
