would there be any advantage to mounting the conductor daughter cards (mp3 player, battery board) on headers like the wireless cards on the express?

also can the conductor be flashed as conductor or slave without removing additional componets required for conductor?

The conductor IS a daughter card to the EtherDongle.  The slave will be another one.  The Conductor does not have a processor so there is nothing to flash.  I would suspect that you could flash the EtherDongle as a slave and then add the full Conductor board to it but why would you want to do that?

No not really since they are a permanant part of the device and get fully tested after assembly before being shipped.
