Basic Question I can't find the answer
« on: October 27, 2012, »
Hey Guys,
I know this is pretty basic and I should be able to find it but I have been looking for quite a while now.
I finally have my ED, Hub, and SSC built and flashed.
Everything went as expected and verified.
Now I hook it all up to the PC and download the SS utility.
when I fire it up it doesn't program.
I click settings and it says Com10.
this is hooked up through the network port so what should I set it to?
thanks.

Greetings,,,

You're moving the program jumper?  You've tried the test firmware on the SSC?

Yes on the jumper.
The way i understand it, the jumper needs to be on to program.
Correct?
I have not loaded the test firmware yet

Greetings,,,

I would load the test firmware to check the connection to the lights.  And that the SSC is basically functioning.

Sorry, had to run to a soccer game.
They are V2.
i will load the test firmware now.
there is no test firmware listed under SSC V2.
there is for V1 and V3.
is it all the same?
If so i will load now and test.

Loading ver1 test firmware on a ver 2 board can damage the PIC.  Version 3 test firmware will not work at all.

You are not alone.  My etherdongle works fine for controlling lights, but when I try the SSC utility (the latest version with grouping) thru the ED I get nowhere, but the utility works fine with my USB dongle.

I think the question that was being asked initially was "what to set the smart string utility to when using a EtD"  Not having used the newer Smart String utility I am sure there must be a setting for the Ether Dongle yes?

Finally got it!
I knew it was a new guy problem.
I didn't realize the smart strings have an input and an output.
i had soldered the output side to the SSC.
I fixed that and everything is working great!

now I guess I need to go do the v3 mod on these.
