Yeah! First Nutcracker Blinky
« on: October 28, 2012, »
I finished building 2 etherdongles, 2 active hubs and 14 SSC v3's.

Today i used my Pickit 3 and set all the PIC, checksums values seemed ok.

Testing, nothing.

It was lot of assembly, did i have a solder bridge? Did i program pics correctly.

I dont own any dmx devices, just RGB strings.

So after a few hours of trying stuff, i contacted pk (gary) who lives a half hour away.

I packed up all my power supplies, ether dongles, ssc's and drove to his house.

Gary was just finishing putting up his Halloween lights.

We first tried both of my etherdongles instead of his, both worked.

We then tried both of my smart hubs, they both worked.

we then tried the 4 SSc's i had brought, nothing.

Now gary notices that i have put the wire on pin 14 instead of pin 15 on the modified ssc's.   <fp.

fixed the one wire, everything works at his house.

As payment, i helped Gary get a local Nutcracker install on his machine.

Come home, try Vixen, cant seem to get it to talk. I obviously must have something wrong. I see the Pixelnet as a device to choose, but configuration only talks about com ports, i was thinking i would see my IP address (192.168.1.225) in a pull down someplace.

So, next switch to try HLS. Takes about an hour of reading the tutorials, but the configuration for pixelnet E31 worked perfectly.

Created a single strand effect and dropped it on HLS Pixel Plane.

All my lights are blinking.

Wow! You only get this feeling once, your first lights.
Now i am ready to create more effects.
I have a 30'x30'x spider web on the fron of my house with 512 pixels attached to the ropes. I need to creates some new effects for it.

thanks to all who helped.

That first time is a wonderful feeling.  Makes the spouse and family feel good as well after all that time spent getting to the first run..

Note: If you see com port option and you are using the EtherDongle then you grabbed the wrong plugin

Congrats Sean It's a great feeling isn't it :D

By the way the plugin marked PixelNet is for the Pixelnet USB Dongle not the Pixelnet EtherDongle that's why it asked for a com port. You need to get the Lynx+EtherDongle.dll from the wiki and copy into the Vixen Plugin -> Output directory it will show up as Lynx_EtherDongle in the Vixen Outputs list and takes no setup other than assigning the channel range.

Darn you Rick you're just too quick

It's the small things that can drive one crazy. Particullarly the first time you do a setup.

Congrats on getting blinky flashey.

It does pay to know someone close by to do unit testing thats for sure.
