Spiral Tree Test
« on: February 02, 2011, »
I increased the speed of the tree & it looks better. Now just pack it away till Nov. & paint the base & center pole flat black. This will be controlled by a 16 CH LE.

Looks good!  Are you using a standard flag pole for this?

So you've only got 16 channels (strands) of lights on it?

Looks nice and full!

Mike,
That looks good.  I agree that there are times that increasing the tempo would look cool but I would base that solely on the music playing at that time.  It looks good though so keep up the good work.  If you feel the urge to add anything the only thing I would add would be strobes of a color like blue.  Just to add a little to the effect of the tree.

Perhaps, the animation would have a better effect with music but the crickets are a nice touch.

Now that is more like it.  There is nothing like strobes to make your front yard look lik e a Christmas Rave.  I do like how the strobes make our cables shine showing the silhouette of a "tree".  My spiral tree has black cables because I thought it would work best but I like the shine from what I am guessing is the aluminum wires (guides).

Keep up the good work

Just like on a Mega Tree Ch 1 controls string 1 Ch 2 controls string 2 & so fourth all the around the tree. The problem I think you re having is, you are thinking of a regular mega tree with the strings running up & down. That is not so on a spiral tree, the strings WRAP AROUND the tree to give the look of a spiral. It took me a year to understand how they worked.

Okay, looked at the video again and the vertical lines are just wires,  not light strings correct? If so you cant do a regular spin with this setup, correct? To do that you would need 16 more channels of vertical strings, correct? ???
Thanks

Here is the how to build & pictures. This is not mine, but built the same except I used nylon rope so it would not stretch & used 2" SCH 40 PVC.

Wow that looks like the one in my yard for 2010 Christmas.   <yk..  Wait... It is!

If you look close you can see my rusty safety pins holding on the lights to the ropes.  The safety pins worked like a champ.  Again the best part about this tree is you can put it on its side to put the lights on.  I put a saw horse at the end to hold the top up and attached the lights.  Then just stood it up and guyed it down.  I used multi led's.  Click on the below link to see it in color.
