It does suck but on a positive note you still have plenty of time to re-sequence it before the season starts.

make sure your tip isnt worn down, and that you have solder    ;D

Changing the subject here back to solder tips for a bit... what causes tips to wear out? The one on my old 20-year old Weller is still good.

i'm using a 20watt pencil iron, maybe b/c i'm trying to make it do maore than it's supposed to?  if i have a lot of connections where i have to leave the iron on a bit to heat up, (like on fuse supports) it seems to kill my tips. not after a couple, but after a while.
To rule the entire tri-state area!  What's that? Perry the Platypus!!!

I Have one of my dads old solder guns and its a workhorse. I think they are the same tips as when it was bought over 20 years ago. The only about it is the weight of it. But other then that, the tip is still good. The metal today is way different then it was then so that's why it lasted so long. Just my opinion..
Its the most wonderful time of the year.

A soldering gun is a whole different animal.  Their tips are much heavier and they have much more power but they were never designed for precision work either.
