chronic foot in mouth today
« on: January 02, 2012, »
First the HGTV dream home show is on... She comes in and asks if we could move to Utah (medical considerations for our daughter). I go watch some of the show, inevitably start thinking about creating a light show, and unthinking say out loud "that's a lot of extension cords..."

Then when walking by the tv later I notice a large attic with lots of holiday stuff stored and exclaim "see, I'm not the only one!" Which led to her pointing out that was the 17,000 sq ft attic of the $150,000,000 Spelling Manor, and if I bought her a house like that I could have all the decorations I want.

The house itself was over 53,000 sq ft. Parking for 100. Some  22 year old British heiress bought it.

She just stuck her head in the room I'm cleaning and asked what a rectifier and a triac is. Apparently I've been doing electronics in my sleep, and talking about it.

Heh heh... Actually, as far as the lights themselves go, she's been with me. As far as mouser goes, I've been vague...
I'm more worried that when I pay for the co-op she'll ask if I've built everything I've already paid for...
I'll get away with the bobcat servo stuff because I don't have it yet, but the express, ssr4-dmx, active hub, and five controllers are another thing.

Well thankfully my wife doesn't ask..  She has tried in the past and I told her she doesn't wanna know.  But when I tell her that I don't know how much I've spent I honestly don't know.  All of my receipts are in a folder / box.  If I wanted to know I could but I choose not too.. :)

Your wife telling you if you bought that house you could have all the decorations you want sounds like something my wife would say to me.  I don't give in though cuz there's always a catch! lol

I have to admit that when I bought this house decorating it for the holidays was a small part of the decision.

We've been looking at a new home for a few months too.

It's hard to tell whether my wife's desire for a large workshop (for her lights) or christmas lighting is having more of the impact in our home/property choices.

We do know that a gated community will not work. :)

lol Steve....  Her lights huh?  Sticking to that story? lol  j/k

I know when we bought this house lights weren't even a factor at that time.  If it was I wouldn't have gotten this place. :)

I drive around now evaluating the yards of different houses and the things I could put in those yards....  Yes my name is Dean, and I'm addicted!  There I admitted to it..... lol

My second hobby is model railroading and I also have a lot of workshop equipment so when we were last looking at homes we always looked at the basement first, because if it didn't work then nothing else matters.  I have several model railroad friends who built a "building" for their railroad and put living quarters above it - LOL.  It also amazes me that when I look at houses now I look at how I would light it and the yard up, also where would viewers park and watch.  Hobbies affect us in subtle ways.

An HO guy I know jacked his house up 10 feet and built a room for a railroad layout underneath it.

Of course, he's single ;-) ...
