The effect looks cool. I saw something like this in a Madrid demo from a Spanish nightclub.

I was going to add the effect to the nutcracker but it needs a grid of vertical LEDs.

If u build it, let me know I will build some effects for it

I would take 4 - 128 node smart strings to build a 8x8x8 cube. Just think of the effects you could have with each node being RGB

You can see the effect i was talking about at 1:05 in this madrix demo. Fairly simple to program, but you must have multiple vertical lights in a grid.
