Cat5 wire
« on: October 04, 2012, »
Well, i need to get going if i am going to have a display.
This week i built 2 active hubs, 1 passive hubs, 4 lynx express, 5 DCS's

I have started modifying the 38 v2 SSC's to v3
finished boards for 3 aether II's

Need to get all of them in boxes and cables attached.
I have received my 20 flex strips that i will be using for my megatree. I have finished building 14' 1/2" emt, Kilz and exterior painted. flex strips attached. Almost done with rack with 20 slots (Think like a gun rack), That will suspend the 20 poles on teh ceiling of my basement. This is where i will store them and still have access to see them as i develop Nutcracker software.

My question is on the cabling

Am i correct that from ether dongle to active hubs, from active hub to ssc's, from one dmx port to another are all straight thru cat5?

i have drawn my house and am ready to order the various lengths of cable.

thanks

Sam, who is happy he flashed his etherdongle with newest firmware!

All straight thru cables.  I made my own contrary to RJs recommendation, but I have all the tools and I have been making them for work for many years.

Did you note the post about the SSC mod is in the process of being changed?  The SSCs should still work and the mod to the mod will just mean moving the extra wire.  I have learned over the last several years that applying mods right away may not be a good practice unless you need it immediately.  I love pioneers, they have saved me from getting hit with many arrows.

Now that my tree is setup correctly I am having a great time generating effects for it, but I have to get ready to start putting them into sequences so tonight's tutorial may just what I need.

Remember from the active hub to the ssc, the cat5 cable NEEDS to be stranded wire.  It's been a design REQUIREMENT since day one.

Greetings,,,

Check the "More Info" on each item.  I think you'll see it say stranded in them.
